About CSC
The Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC) was established on June 19, 1971 through Republic Act 6341. This law, authored by Congressman Jose M. Alberto, converted the Virac National Agricultural and Trade School into the Catanduanes State Colleges.
When the school year 1971-1972 opened, collegiate courses in Education, Arts and Sciences, Arts and Trade, Commerce as well as graduate courses in Education were offered.
On July 8, 1972, Republic Act 6590 provided for opening of additional courses at CSC. The are Associate of Arts in Nursing, Associate of Arts in Education, Associate in Commerce, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Bachelor of Science in Business Education, Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Arts Education and Master of Arts Commerce.
Only July 22, 1996, the Tenth Congress of the Republic of the Philippines enacted and approved Republic Act No. 8292, law which provide for the uniform composition and powers of the governing boards, the manner of appointment and term of office of the president of chartered state universities and colleges, and for other purposes. R.A. No. 8292 repealed and amended all laws, presidential decrees, executive orders, letters of instruction and SUC charters contrary to or inconsistent with the Act.
Additionally, Catanduanes Agricultural and Industrial College (CAIC) was integrated to the Catanduanes State Colleges on October 31, 1999 pursuant to the Special Provision No. 2 of the CHED FY 1999 Budget under the General Appropriation Act of 1999 of Republic Act 8745 which calls for the integration of CHED Supervised Institutions (CSI’s) to State Universities and Colleges (SUCs). It is now known as CSC Panganiban Campus.
The past and present Presidents of the Catanduanes State Colleges are as follows: Mr. Pedro G. Tabuzo, (1971 to 1972); Dr. Jacinto A. Medallada, (1972 to 1986); Dr. Rodolfo V. Azanza, (1986 to 1990); Dr. Ernestina P. Averilla (OIC 1990 to 1992); Dr. Adolfo S. Bagadiong, (1993 to 2003) and Dr. Asuncion V. Asetre, 2003 to present.
Today, the Catanduanes State Colleges is enjoying the prestige of being the only comprehensive higher education institution in Catanduanes and among the dynamic SUCs in Bicol which offers a wide range of academic programs with its graduates topping national licensure examinations.
CSC Official SealThe Official Seal of the Catanduanes State Colleges is in Circular form, the upper arc bears the name of the institution, "CATANDUANES STATE COLLEGES", the lower "Virac, Catanduanes", its official address. The escutcheon or shield inside the circle symbolizes the Republic of the Philippines on both sides of which are the symbols for Science and Technology on the left, and natural resources on the right, which divided by the Torch of Knowledge on the centermost. The torch is based on the open book, the symbol of education below which is the year of the founding of the college, "1971".
Mandate
The Catanduanes State Colleges, established on June 19, 1971 through Republic Act 6341, is mandated to carry out its four-fold functions of instruction, extension, research and production.
As such, CSC shall strive to enrich its offerings in the undergraduate and graduate degree programs and offer courses relevant to regional and national development thrust to provide manpower requirements of the province, other places in the region and the country in general.
It shall likewise embark into in research programs and activities that will help uplift the standards of living of the marginalized sector along its service area, develop a culture of research and enhance research capability to support the development thrust of the province, region and the nation.
Furthermore, it shall strengthen extension service activities to bring research advancement to the service area, and improve revenue generation capability through maximum use of physical, technical and human resources.
