CSC wins Gov. Joseph C. Cua Dangal ng Kalikasan award
For sustaining the gains of its environmental protection program and initiating more eco-driven policies and projects, Dr. Minerva I. Morales, CSC SUC President III, hoists the trophy won by the Catanduanes State Colleges in the Search for Gov. Joseph C. Cua 'Dangal ng Kalikasan' award, academe category. With Dr. Morales onstage are Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Puno (who is also the author of the Writ of Kalikasan), Governor Joseph C. Cua and Congressman Cesar Vergara Sarmiento. Also in photo is RTC Executive Judge Lelu Contreras.the Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC) won the Governor Joseph C. Cua Dangal ng Kalikasan Award, academe category, on June 18, 2012.

Dr. Minerva I. Morales, CSC SUC President III, received the recognition during the Opening Ceremonies of the Linggo ng Kalikasan celebration at the Catanduanes Provincial Capitol compound.

Governor Joseph C. Cua, together with former Supreme Chief Justice Renato Puno, the event’s guest of honor, handed over the trophy and cash award to CSC. Also joining the awarding is Congressman Cesar V. Sarmiento, Judge Lelu Contreras of Regional Trial Court Branch 42, and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Ed Guerrero.

CSC was recognized for its “significant contribution in the field of ecological solid waste management through its aggressive environmental education programs and strong policy framework that is currently transforming the institution into an eco-ville, where the timeless principles of sustainable development are at work.”

The awarding of Dangal ng Kalikasan was one of the highlights of the opening ceremonies of the Linggo ng Kalikasan which was kicked off by the parade around downtown Virac. The CSC community, along with other local and national government agencies, took part in the weeklong celebration.

CSC also spearheaded the mural painting contest, and participated in the massive tree planting on June 22, 2012 in the towns of San Miguel and Bato, Catanduanes. (GSRubio/PR and Information Services)
