NYC urges Catanduanes youth to avail of
government programs
Over a hundred student leaders from Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC),
other private higher education institutions, secondary schools, and
youth groups in Catanduanes, were urged by the National INFORMED, INVOLVED, EMPOWERED –
Student leaders from various campus and community based organizations at CSC and other schools in Catanduanes
get to know the many opportunities offered to their sector by various government agencies
during the Forum on Youth Opportunities by National Youth Commission Southern Luzon Office

(NYC) to avail of the numerous programs and services offered by various
government agencies to their sector during the Forum on Youth Opportunities
on September 20, 2011 at CSC Little Theater.
Participants were appraised by the NYC, together with other government
agencies such as Commission on Higher Education, Department of Agriculture
Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Environment and
Natural Resources, Department of Health, Department of Interior and
Local Government, Department of Science and Technology, Technical
Education and Skills Development Authority, about the various youth-based
and pro-youth programs implemented in the region.
The speakers highly encouraged the student leaders to take advantage
of these agencies’ scholarships, livelihood and job opportunities,
youth welfare promotion, skills training, internships and leadership
programs.
The open forum highlighted the one-day event, where student participants
engaged in highly interactive discussions with the speakers.
Questions on scholarship programs, employment opportunities, and training
courses were among the most inquired topics, stretching for about
an hour the closing part of the activity.
NYC lauded the activity for “providing a lot of points of action
for the participants, students, Sangguniang Kabataan officers, as
well as advisers and school administrators, in availing various youth
opportunities presented.”
NYC suggested to the youth participants to comply with the requirements,
improve themselves to fit in with the qualifications and be more involved
in youth activities in the respective schools and communities, and
form among themselves youth organizations such as 4H Club, PYAP, to
avail of the programs and services.
The participants were likewise encouraged to disseminate to their
respective organizations and communities the wide variety of opportunities
and services they can get from government agencies
One of the strongly recommended actions by NYC, specifically to CSC,
was to organize students who are children of farmers and fisherfolks
into 4H Club since a lot of budget is given to this program. NYC also
adds that once organized, 4H Club will be given a chance to be a strong
partner of the government, specifically the Department of Agriculture,
in implementing programs for young people.
The event was brought to CSC by Ms. Nydia P. Delfin, NYC Area Officer
for Southern Luzon.
Participating schools were Catanduanes State Colleges, Catanduanes
Colleges, Catanduanes National High School, Caramoran School of Fisheries
and selected rural development high schools and some Sangguniang Kabataan
officers in the province.
NYC also re-launched during the forum the Youth Organization Registration
Program or the YORP. Students belonging to various youth groups were
given by NYC application form wherein they can register their organizations.
Through YORP, youth organizations will be informed about various youth
programs, encourage and young people’s to participation to NYC
programs, and establish an official communication network between
and other youth development stakeholders.
The event was co-organized by the Gerry S. Rubio of the Office of
PR and Information Services, together with the CSC Federated College
Student Council (FCSC) headed by President/Student Trustee Glenda
Rima and FCSC Adviser, Prof. Josephine V. Torrente. Dr. Lourdes V.
Rodriguez, CSC Student Service Director, welcomed the speakers and
participants during the opening part of the forum.
