CSC Conducts 2011 Annual In-House Review
The Annual In-House Review of completed researches at Catanduanes
State Colleges (CSC) was held on September 21, 2011 at the CSC Little
Theatre, with the Research and Development Center (R&DC) spearheading
the research activity.
Dubbed as SEARCH FOR USWAG AWARD, this year’s research evaluation
turned out six (6) completed scientific papers classified under the
following categories: Dr. Aida A. Dianela, -

Research Category

3) Design and Development of Laboratory Manual in Physics
Adjudged Best Paper (USWAG AWARD) in the Development Category was
“Standardization and Commercialization of Pili Pulp Flour and
By-Products” by Prof. Elena G. Tasarra, Prof. Hedelissa T. Gianan,
and Prof. Ma. Resadel J. Osido (College of Health Sciences-Nutrition
and Prof. Elena G. Tasarra -
presents her Best Paper.Dietetics Department).
Sharing in the Second Best Paper Award were “Standardization
& Commercialization of Candied Condol Benincasa hispida: An Alternative
Livelihood Scheme.” by Prof. Priscilla P. Gianan and Prof. Corazon
B. Sicio (College of Technology-Department of Industrial Technology)
and “Design, Construction, and Development of Improvised Universal
Picture Tube Rejuvenator” by Prof. Edwin T. Romero (College
of Technology-Department of Industrial Technology).
Garnering the Best Paper (USWAG AWARD) under Research Category was
“Mga Isinaling Kuwentong-Bayan ng Catanduanes: Isang Pagsusuri”
by Prof. Susan M. Tindugan (College of Arts & Sciences-Languages
Department) and Dr. Charlene A. Cantar (College of Education).
With Certificate of Appreciation were the researches “Extent
of Implementation of Food Fortification Program to Grade V & VI
Pupils and High School Students in CSC Laboratory Schools” by
Dr. Meda B. Mercado (College of Arts & Sciences-Natural Science
Department) and
“Design and Development of Laboratory Manual in Physics”
by Prof. Pio G. Panti (College of Arts and Sciences, Math Department).
In the same event, Dr. Estrella Placides, CSC R&DC Director,
presented the Office’s non-competing research paper “How
Far Have We Gone into the Culture of Research? (CSC 1990-2010)”.
Mr. Jimmy V. Cabrera, Provincial Director of the Department of Science
and Technology; Dr. Lily P. Custodio, Dean of the CSC Graduate School;
Mr. Gerry S. Rubio, CSC Administrative Officer V; and Dr. Lilia V.
Brines, Ret Prof. VI of CSC, composed the Board of Evaluators.
Dr. Aida A. Dianela, VP for Research, Extension, & Production
Affairs (REPA), including Prof. Ma. Theresa E. Sarmiento, VP for Financial
and Administrative Affairs (AFA) graced the research presentation
and evaluation; the latter as representative of the CSC President,
Dr. Minerva I. Morales.
A total of 45 participants, mostly mandated faculty members to conduct
research, was recorded in the list of attendees, as reported by the
Research Director, Dr. Estrella S. Placides.
The review and evaluation of research and development projects is
an annual activity of the CSC in coordination with the Bicol Consortium
for Agriculture Resources Research and Development (BCARRD). This
is regularly undertaken to ensure that the research activities in
agriculture, natural resources, and social sciences are efficiently
and effectively undertaken to generate useful production technologies
supportive of national development programs. (Juanita
