CSC now a TESDA-certified National Competency testing center

For being duly certified by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as accredited assessment center, Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC) through its College of Technology - Department of Industrial Technology, conducted its first-ever National Competency II (NC II) tests for Consumer Electronics Servicing, CommercialCSC students undergo TESDA National Competency II assessments in food processing, dressmaking and consumer electronics servicing. Cooking and Dressmaking on Thursday, October 13.

Fifty examinees, all from CSC, underwent assessment tests by TESDA in coordination with selected CSC faculty members. Twenty-seven students took up NC II tests in Commercial Cooking, 10 in Consumer Electronics Servicing and three in Dressmaking.

According to TESDA lead assessor Jesus Jay E. Ariola, with the designation of CSC as assessment center, applicants in consumer electronics servicing NC II will no longer have to travel to Pili, Camarines Sur just to take the assessment test.

The TESDA assessors who administered the competency tests were Mrs. Bella M. Vargas, TESDA assistant professor III, Mrs. Gilda O. Trinidad, TESDA instructor III and Jesus Jay Ariola, TESDA instructor I. CSC-DIT professors Precy Gianan, Corazon Sicio and Edwin Romero respectively served as coordinators for the assessments in dressmaking, food processing and consumer electronics servicing.

CSC has been certified by TESDA as an Accredited Competency Assessment Center for Commercial Cooking NC II, Dressmaking NC II and Consumer Electronics Servicing NC II on March 18, 2011. Prof. Edwin Romero said in addition to consumer electronics servicing, dressmaking and commercial cooking, CSC will additionally apply for TESDA accreditation as assessment center for automotive and drafting technologies

The establishment of CSC as TESDA NC II assessment center was proposed by the CSC DIT Trade Technical Education Department headed by Prof. Edwin T. Romero.

TESDA pursues the assessment and certification of the competencies of the middle-level skilled workers through the Philippine TVET Qualification and Certification System (PTQCS). The assessment process seeks to determine whether the graduate or worker can perform specific standards expected in the workplace. A certification is provided to those who meet the competency standards. This ensures the productivity, quality and global competitiveness of the middle-level workers.
